Most of us know that having a good diet and doing exercise is important part of living a long and healthy life. And when it comes to being a Pilot or a cabin crew member , it is very important that we are healthy and fit to fly as constantly changing, hectic schedules and job stress can have an effect on a pilot’s physical well-being.
SO...After selecting a flying school ,
before you get enrolled / start your classes & before you MAKE any payments, make sure that you do the MEDICAL test as it is very IMPORTANT that you know you are FIT TO FLY.
Personal NOTE-
It is VERY important that you do the medicals FIRST because most of us dont do any kind of physical checkups / full body checkups here and there and chance of finding something wrong in our system during these tests we do here is considerably high.
Therefore before you DO any payments for the school , make sure you do the medicals as there have been few unfortunate / rare incidents where the medical was suspended / denied after they have paid for the school and some of those payments are NON-REFUNDABLE.
There are mainly 3 types of medicals
WHAT SHOULD I DO?

After getting the prescription, you should go to one of the hospitals specified in the checklist for the tests. The test results will be sent to Civil Aviation by the hospital and you wont be able to get hands on the results sheet from the hospital.
And for the eye tests or the Ophthalmology check you should visit the Vision Care Opticians in Colombo to do the tests.
They will be giving you the Ophthalmology test results and then you should put an appointment with the mentioned Eye surgeon in the CAA prescription and take those result sheets to him where he will examine those results and check your eyes. After that he will send the results directly to the CAA.
Personal Notes-
*Some of my friends were told / recommended to use spectacles after doing these eye tests.
**Remember to call the hospitals and get the test fee / rates before you go.
***Tip - eat healthy and drink plenty of water 2-3 days before you do these tests, specially the Urine & blood tests ;)
